Corporate overview

Glycode is a biotechnology company which aims to become a leader in the field of protein glycosylation. Founded in 2004 by Christophe Javaud and Vincent Carré, the company has developed a proprietary innovative and powerful technology, GlycodExpress™, which consists of a bank of yeast strains genetically optimized for the production of recombinant therapeutic glycoproteins (antibodies, EPOs, growth factors…). These strains have been genetically glycoengineered to synthesize fully humanized N-glycans. Located in Uzerche (France), Glycode has 11 employees.

Management team

Vincent Carré, Ph. D., President and co-founder

Vincent Carré holds a PhD in cellular biology in 1999 at the University of Limoges. He is specialized in flow cytometry, with some scientific experiments on glycosylated porphyrins and VIH. He joined Glycode project in 2004, after a first company co-founding experience. He is the author of numerous scientific articles and 2 patents.

Christophe Javaud, Ph. D., Chief Executive Officer and co-founder

Christophe Javaud holds a PhD in molecular biology in 2002 at the University of Limoges. He is expert in molecular glycobiology and glycogenomics. During his time at the University, he was an enquiring teacher (5 years) and has contributed to the achievement of a technological platform dedicated to the analysis of glycogenome expression. Initiator of Glycode project, he is the author of numerous scientific publications and 1 issued patent.

Board of directors

From 2009, the board mission is to help the management team and allow the company, by contributing to the strategic guidelines, to acquire a global outreach. In addition to the management team, 3 other members make up the board of directors.

Gilles Alberici, PharmD, PhD, Octalfa (Lyon)

Gilles Alberici has 20 years of experience in the European pharmaceutical industry. After he received his PhD, he served as development and manufacturing director of biological agents in the Mérieux group. He founded (1994) and managed IMTIX, a Pasteur-Mérieux business unit dedicated to transplantation and haematology. He was then President of IMTIX-SangStat, the European affiliate of SangStat, where he managed more than 140 people in 12 different countries. He founded OPi in September 1999, a company dedicated to the development of treatments for rare deseases, and acquired in 2007 by EUSA Pharma. He is the author of more than 40 publications and 4 issued patents.

Philippe Vuagnat, Ph. D., Sofimac Partners (Clermont-Ferrand)

Holder of PhD in geology at the University Claude Bernard Lyon (1984), he worked as a geologist during 4 years for mining groups such as Elf Aquitaine, BRGM... Then he was appointed as manager at CESI (Lyon) before becoming CEO of Axone, a business incubator located in the Monts du Lyonnais. In 2000, he joined the SOFIMAC group as director of investments of the “Lanceur”, a seed capital fund, which invested in Glycode in 2004. Since 2004, Philippe Vuagnat is CEO and member of the executive board of Sofimac Partners.

Remy Glantenay, Limousin Participations (Limoges)

Graduated from ESSEC in 1970, he worked as an internal auditor (1971-1980) at Pechiney UGINE Kuhlmann, where he was consecutively assistant, head of mission and head of Group. After a Chief Financial Officer experience of Docks Industriels from 1980 to 1985, a PUK group subsidiary, he carried out with a team of senior executives, a business recovery plan of the company. Founder of a venture capital company (1898-1997), he became in 1997 managing director, then executive vice president of LIMOUSIN PARTICIPATIONS.
